MINUTES OF ANNUAL MEETING

CASTAWAYS SAILING, INC.

NOVEMBER 14, 2009

Brian Beaver calls the annual meeting to orderPRESENT: Beaver (2), Schwartz (2), Bloom/ (2), Bell /Hindman-Bell(2), Tollman (1), Neimeyer/Holzen (2), Copeland (2), Bogin (2), Gebbia (2), Rowse/DiMeo (2), Havanich (2), Hartman (2), Luscomb (1), Willich (2), Dwyer(1), Bailey (1)

QUORUM:  More than one third of the membership was present.

MINUTES: A motion made by H. Copeland and seconded by J. Bloom approved the minutes of the last Annual Meeting of November 2008. The draft of Board Minutes of October 21, 2009 was circulated.

TREASURER:  Judy Bloom, assistant to the Treasurer, stated that the bank balance at the end of October was $13,025.

VICE COMMODORE: Gordon Rowse reported that the last race of the Fellowship Cup would be held on Sunday November 15 followed by an Awards Night at the Palm Beach Sailing Club on Wednesday December 9th. The Notice of Race for the Fellowship Cup 2010 was circulated. Early registration and payment of fees is encouraged.

BYLAWS COMMITTEE:  Jim Bloom presented the changes in the Bylaws to reflect the way the club is actually administered. A motion made by Judy Bloom and seconded by Marion Schwartz passed accepting/adopting the new bylaws.

MEMBERSHIP: Marilyn Copeland presented and welcomed our newest members, Dave and Harriet Havanich and their Brewer ketch, Pageant, to the Castaways.

NOMINATING: The slate of the nominating committee was accepted by acclamation.  The new officers will be installed at the December 5th meeting.

The motion was made by Marilyn Copeland and it was seconded by Karen Beaver.

REGATTA: A message from Sandy Smith reminded the membership that the date of September 25-26, 2010 has been reserved with the Marriott. The hotel has agreed to offer the same discount on the room cost.

SOCIAL: Marion Schwartz noted that Richard Dwyer has offered his home for the Holiday Boat Parade on Saturday December 5th.  Members must send a check for ten dollars each person ($10/pp) made out to Castaways to Karen Luscomb by November 30th. “Your check is your reservation” and it is expected that each entity will bring one unwrapped toy for tots.

Marion also said plans for a Valentines Party are underway.

NEW BUSINESS: Richard Dwyer brought us up to date on a possible Key West to Cuba race which might occur in late April or May 2010.
